BLACK LIGHT THEATRE

The Black Light Theatre is founded on the creative use of illusion, whose principles were known thousands of years ago, in ancient Asia – the so-called black cabinet. Even before the creation of the first black-light theatre company, this technique was used by illusionists, film-makers (Méliès), and also the famous director K.S. Stanislavski in the 1930s. The technique continues to be used in modern times by such as the world-famous illusionist, David Copperfield, in his live performances, or the pop-star Michael Jackson.

The Black Light Theatre communicates with its audiences through music, expressive dance and the use of its specific technique, avoiding use of the spoken word. The Black Light Theatre has a characteristic suggestion of indefinable mystery, which you won’t find in any other art form, and which is recognised by people regardless of cultural differences.

In practice this means that unseen actors and dancers invest their skills into dramatic pieces using props, which then dance, come to life in a virtuoso movement of objects around the actors. All shows of the Black Light Theatre are cosmopolitan and understandable, forcing the audience to rouse themselves out of the passivity of viewing, so that they become part of the creative process.

Literally anything is possible in the Black Light Theatre. Things happen on its stage that you’ll see in no other theatre. It is, in reality, a small theatre of great miracles; the return to stage of the magic of the theatre.
